Lee County prison locked down, some inmates injured, officials refuse to elaborate

The federal prison camp at Hickory Flats in Lee County is under lockdown today following a Wednesday evening incident involving approximately 20 inmates.

Prison spokesman Todd Sloop said the incident began about 7:15 p.m., and the facility was immediately placed in lockdown status. No staff members were injured during the incident, but some inmates were treated for minor injuries, he said.

Since the incident is under investigation Sloop declined to release details of what transpired, saying he preferred to wait until all the facts are known. He further declined to speak on possible charges against any inmates.

Sloop said the facility will remain under lockdown until it is deemed safe for staff and inmates. He could not speculate on how long that will be or how long the investigation will take.

Details will be made available once the investigation has been concluded.
